Born into the union of Mr. and Mrs. Sawoe in Voijamai, Lofa County, Chef Alexander’s journey in the culinary world started with a humble beginning. He began his primary education in Voijamai but was forced to move to the city of Kakata, Margibi County, due to the civil war in Liberia. Despite the challenges, Chef Alexander remained determined to pursue his passion for cooking.
After completing his primary education, Chef Alexander graduated from the St. Augustine Episcopal Mission School. His passion for culinary arts led him to enroll in the Conduit of Potential (COPs) program at the old Benson Hospital. To further develop his culinary skills, Chef Alexander joined the Dace School of Hospitality (DACE) in Gaye Town Old Road Community. During his time there, he completed an intensive 6-month training program in catering, gaining invaluable knowledge and practical experience.
In 2017, Chef Alexander’s dedication and talent earned him an opportunity to train at the prestigious Libassa Ecolodge. This experience allowed him to refine his techniques and broaden his culinary repertoire, equipping him with the expertise to create innovative and mouthwatering dishes.
